DLSS 5 is the fifth generation of NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling, which uses AI models for real-time "neural rendering" to boost in-game image quality on GeForce RTX GPUs. Unveiled at NVIDIA's GTC conference in March 2026, where gamers derided its demos as an "AI slop filter", it launched on September 3, 2026 and debuted with 3D-guided neural rendering in NBA 2K27; some RTX 5090 owners reported melted power connectors after enabling it.

Early Leak Of NVIDIA's DLSS 5 Has An Uncanny Valley Problem

NVIDIA's next-generation graphics technology, which the company has positioned as a leap forward in AI-powered gaming, is stumbling out of the gate with a problem that could undermine its core promise: the leaked footage of DLSS 5 reveals eerily artificial character animations and movements that some players are finding more unsettling than impressive. The glitch exposes a vulnerability in NVIDIA's AI upscaling approach just as the company attempts to convince gamers that machine learning can enhance rather than compromise visual authenticity. With eight major outlets already scrutinizing the technology, NVIDIA faces a critical perception battle before an official launch.
